The Wall Street Journal review of our Vino de la Familia Blanca:

2008 Presidential Taste-Off:

In a tasting of wines from Arizona and Illinois chosen by each state's wine association, these were our favorites. These are the prices we paid. They are listed in the order in which we tried them in our blind tasting.

Page Springs Cellars Malvasia Bianca 'Vino de la Familia Blanca' 2007. Arizona. $20. Pleasant nose, quite flowery. Citrusy and clean. Crisp, with good acidity. Some punch and a little backbone. A bit of spice on the finish. Charming, pretty wine.

Blue Sky Vineyard Chardonnay 'Estate' (Shawnee Hills) 2007.
Illinois. $24. Clean and well-made. Pleasant and light. Easy to drink. Some mouthfeel. Seems a bit unfocused at first, but gets better with air and a little warmth.

Dos Cabezas Wine Works (Bostock Winery) Viognier 2006 (Cochise County).
Arizona. $20. Plenty of citrus and grapefruit, with some pleasing oak. Interesting and complex finish. A bit sweet, but still quite pleasing.

Fox Valley Winery Chardonnay 'Reserve' 2007.
Illinois. $19.95. A pleasant, easy-drinking, nicely oaked Chardonnay to keep in the refrigerator at all times. Light, fun and gulpable.

Keeling Schaefer Vineyards Syrah 'Three Sisters' 2006 (Cochise County).
Arizona. $20. Rhone-like, with roasted stuff. Pleasant and nicely grapey, with some intensity. Well-balanced finish, though a touch hot. Some cream detracts, but it's still lovely.
