Wine Club 1st Quarter Release: Add-On Wines “Study of Syrah”

2008 Lakeview Syrah, Monterey County, California
This is our last vintage working with Lakeview Vineyards.  While it’s great that we have more opportunities to work with Arizona fruit, it’s often hard to say “goodbye” to the California vineyards you’ve come to know and love.  An effusive floral nose with stonefruit, blackberry and walnut on the finish.


2008 Carriage Syrah, Paso Robles, California
Pre-release, limited production.  This wine is not available to public.
Carriage Vineyard lies in the steep eastern hills of Templeton, California in southern Paso Robles.  The chalky clay-soils of Carriage along with its warm temperatures lead to the creation of dark, rich wines.  The 2008 vintage was a cool one for Arizona, while many of the vineyards we work with in California saw a hotter than average finish to the growing season.  That heat intensifies Carriage Vineyard’s deep, ripe fruit character and  reduced natural acids in the grape softening the wine.  This wine packs deep, rich, opulent fruit on a pleasing soft velvety texture.  A true crowd pleaser!
 

2008 ASV Syrah, Norte Block, Cochise County, Arizona
Pre-release, limited production.  This wine is not available to public.
There is something special about the Syrah from Arizona Stronghold Vineyards and especially the Norte Block.  Planted in 2001, the vines in this block may not be the prettiest, but they share a distinct site character of spice, red clay and a unique texture.  While 2008 was a cool vintage and note a great one for Arizona Syrah in general, this wines is an exception.  Under a beautiful core of dark fruit and earthy spice lies a firm structure of acid and tannin.  This wines could reward up to 5 years proper cellaring.
