Contrary to urban wine myth, Petite Sirah is not necessarily a smaller Syrah grape. In fact, Petite berries can often be larger. The wines derived from it are also not tiny in any way and have been compared to squid ink on many an occasion. As the progeny of Syrah and a French grape named Peloursin, Petite Sirah (also known as Duriff in southern France) produces massive, inky, well-structured wines with supple texture and chewy mouthfeel. The RSL Petite certainly fits the bill while also lending complex aromas of forest floor, tobacco and pepper spice.
